What Can I Expect During My First Visit to a Chiropractor? Although each doctor' s process will vary, generally you can expect to complete a full health history questionnaire and "new patient" paperwork. You will then consult with the doctor. This consultation is your opportunity to express your health concerns and expectations, and to ask any questions you may have pertaining to your health. It also allows the Chiropractor to explain his role in your health care and discuss your health prognosis. A physical exam will be performed which may include postural analysis, computerized muscle and nerve assessments, orthopedic testing, reflex testing, muscle testing, and a specialized Chiropractic evaluation. In many cases x-rays are necessary to determine an exact diagnosis and plan of care. X-rays can usually be done at the doctor's office. Your Chiropractor will then carefully analyze the results of the exam and x-rays. He will review the findings with you, usually on your next visit. Then, you will receive your first adjustment. Adjustments usually feel good, although you may feel some discomfort in areas that are already sore. Depending on your condition, your Chiropractor may schedule a series of visits for care. |
