Adjustments
Adjustments are a specific force made in a specific direction to induce movement of the involved vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of their normal alignment. Misalignment, or Subluxation, can occur for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident.
When these vertebrae are out of place, it affects the transmission of nerve impulses over the nervous system. Nerves carry information to and from every organ and tissue in your body, and interference with the nerve impulse is a cause of abnormal function in the affected part of the body.
An adjustment is a pressure applied by the chiropractor (utilizing an adjusting instrument, or done by hand), to move a vertebrae into improved alignment. This happens with a quick movement and is usually without discomfort. Occasionally, you may hear a noise like when you're cracking your knuckles, referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen within the joint. For those who don't like to hear that "popping" sound, rest assured, joint cavitation is not necessary for the adjustment to be successful.
Adjustments are an excellent way to keep your body functioning at its highest level. When your body is in alignment, you are able to respond and perform as you were designed to.
