ADJUSTMENTS
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific force chiropractors apply to vertebrae that have abnormal alignment, or fail to function normally. The objective of the chiropractic adjustment is to reduce the Subluxation (misalignment), which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.
In our office, the adjustment is usually made using a hand held, state of the art adjusting instrument called the Impulse Adjustor. This instrument really helps those who have been frightened by stories they have heard about people getting their necks "cracked". There is no joint cavitation (popping sound) with this instrument, and no twisting required. But for the record, joint cavitation is just the sound made by gases (primarily carbon dioxide) coming out of solution within a joint (like when a cork "pops" out of a Champagne bottle) . It is quite harmless, and many people love it. But with instrument adjusting, it is unnecessary. Even the Cowardly Lion would approve of our methods!
